So this blog is about freedom. What would that mean for you?
I grew up in an Alcoholic household of criticism, violence, fear, uncertainty and unhappiness. When I was young, freedom for me would have been to escape from the madness that was my home and the pain I felt living there.

Unfortunately for me, at that time there was no physical escape, only temporary escapes into numbness, endurance of the pain and a hope that one day I could run far away and begin to live my own life free from the madness. Finally when I was 17, I was old enough to leave and I never returned, at least emotionally.

By the time I was 25, I had trained as a Psychiatric Nurse and then Counsellor and I came to realise that although I had escaped from my family's madness I had taken myself with me and I would have to take responsibility for my own healing process; for finding my own inner freedom.

I am 55 now, I am a therapist of many years experience and have been involved in Psychotherapy all of my adult life. I have studied, I have learned from books and I have had some great teachers, but mainly I have tread my own path of emotional and spiritual growth through pain and healing. So when I talk about emotional and spiritual freedom, I sincerely hope that it is with profound respect for anyone intent on taking responsibility for freeing themselves from whatever they are suffering right now and from whatever wounds from their past they are attempting to heal.

My own struggles have been with fear, anxiety, a pervasive feeling of self doubt and lack of confidence, addictions and relationship struggles. Seems like a lot for just one person but I’m not deluded enough to believe that many people have'nt had a far worse time than me. I have been fortunate in finding some guides along the way, and what used to feel debilitating seems somehow to have become inner strengths rather than the weaknesses I previously thought them to be. Maybe my grandmother was right when she said that what doesn't kill you will make you stronger.

The Freedom Therapy Clinic was started by me with a desire to help others find freedom and turn weaknesses into strengths and I bring together all that I have learned over the last 35 years as well as the struggles and pain of my childhood years before.

Some problems are relatively easy to win over and others not. What I have learned the most about change is that although I have had much help and guidance, I am ultimately responsible for making the changes in attitudes, beliefs and behavior that have reshaped my life. I have also been responsible for allowing myself to find the strength in being a feeling man rather than a thinking man and I have learned to resolve the paradox of allowing emotional expression in order to unlocked my hidden inner strength. I also learned that I shaped my own outer world from the shapes formed in my inner world. By healing the inner I have been able to shape my life in a form that I call ‘ freedom to be all that I could be ’. I hope that somewhere in these brief writings you will find enough hope to inspire you to begin or continue your journey of growth and healing.

The Freedom Therapy Clinic is run by Alistair and Rebekah Rhind and is based in Brentwood, Essex UK. The clinic specialises in combining Hypnotherapy, Coaching and Counselling solutions to help people achieve their goals for change and growth.
